This webinar will introduce the new Corrections Intelligence Network Group which has been launched by the International Corrections and Prison Association to share information, best practices and lessons learned in corrections intelligence. We are hoping to build an international community network of people working within the sector and generate constructive dialogue on the values and benefits of intelligence frameworks whilst sharing technical advice and providing assistance to organisations wishing to build this capability in their jurisdiction.

Speakers

Steven will provide a summary of the National Intelligence capability of the New Zealand Department of Corrections and discuss enabling legislative provisions, governance and priority setting illustrating how intelligence contributes to safer prisons.

Rob will provide a summary of the intelligence landscape within Queensland Corrective Services, those statutory provisions supporting information sharing across government and law enforcement, those intelligence priorities that support QCS operations and contribute to community safety and those challenges impacting on the intelligence landscape.

Helen will provide a summary of the outcomes of a Winston Churchill Fellowship on International Best Practice in Corrections Intelligence. Helen undertook this fellowship study after conducting a comprehensive intelligence review for Queensland Corrective Services and travelled to corrections, law enforcement and security agencies across New Zealand, the United States of America, Canada and the United Kingdom to understand how these countries had advanced their corrections intelligence capabilities. Helen will discuss the best practice methodologies she identified around these countries and discuss how she thinks the Network Group will be able to assist other jurisdictions seeking to expand and strengthen their intelligence capabilities across prisons, parole and probation sectors. Helen will also discuss the capability building she has been providing for other Australian and U.S agencies in the corrections intelligence sector.
