Abstract
This 15th Edition of Advancing Corrections deals with what is perhaps the most singular challenge for correctional services: how can we help navigate the ‘reintegration’ of justice involved individuals who come under our care? The challenge is significant because it is clearly multi-faceted. It is significant because it can severely stretch the resources available to correctional services. It is undeniably complicated because it is in many ways a local challenge, presenting different obstacles and requiring different solutions in different community circumstances. We know that it isn’t achievable in some predetermined, time-limited fashion. And we know that the efforts of correctional services alone are insufficient; there are other key dimensions to effective reintegration that have to work in tandem. The core message of the desistance paradigm highlights not just the personal – but the social, legal and moral dimensions.
