Abstract
The prison population is among the most digitally excluded in the UK. Attempts to digitize UK prisons have been met with challenges including poor infrastructure, lack of resources, and poor digital literacy amongst prison residents. In March 2022, His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service began the rollout of 84 secure laptops, each including rehabilitative content, across prisons in North-West England. This study reports staff qualitative feedback on the implementation of these laptops, and their opinions on the Breaking Free digital program for substance use disorder, which was included as content on these laptops.
