The interplay of family relationships and visits in the process of prisoner recidivism

Márta Miklósi Ph.D. is a senior lecturer assistant professor at the Institute of Educational Studies and Cultural Management, at the University of Debrecen. She has her PhD on education science. She has been working in research concerning prisons for about 10 years. Her research topic is focusing on education and training of prisoners, juveniles, the situation of prison teachers. She has mainly studied the educational and cultural rights of prisoners in penitentiary institutes in Hungary, Southern Europe (Italy, Malta, Portugal, Cyprus) and Central Europe (Slovakia, Czech Republic, Poland, Austria), Northern and Western Europe (Belgium, Iceland).
In the past years she participated and is still participating in several Hungarian and international initiatives, research programmes, among others:
•   2023-24: she was leading an international research team to conduct a questionnaire survey of prisoners and staff in Czech, Slovak and Polish prisons on educational and cultural opportunities. Research team members are Dr. Daria Becker-Pestka (Gdansk), JUDr. Petra Krivosudská, PhD., LL.M. (Bratislava), Dr. Vitek Docekal (Olomouc)
•   2023: she was the leader of an international joint research project with Kazimierza Wielkiego University in Bydgoszcz, University of Gdansk (Poland) and National University of Public Service, entitled "University students' career preferences: prison as a prospective workplace". Research team members are Dr. Ewa Sygit-Kowalkowska, Dr. Andrzej Piotrowski
•   2022-23: "Retrieval in Prison", a joint research project with the National University of Public Service, in which interviews with high-profile prisoners and prison chaplains were conducted in Szeged Prison and Penitentiary, Sátoraljaújhely Prison and Tiszalök National Prison Institute.

Lili Kramer

Policy Researcher, Hungarian Helsinki Committee, Hungary

Lili Krámer is a project manager and policy researcher at the Hungarian Helsinki Committee, a human rights NGO. A Sociologist-Criminologist, she has extensive experience working on international projects contributing to a fair and humane criminal justice system, where alternatives to imprisonment are accessible for all and the prison authorities strive to facilitate meaningful family contact. She is a founding member of a grass-roots support network (FECSKE) for people impacted by incarceration. She is a visiting lecturer at ELTE University Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Social Sciences and a member of the Hungarian Society of Criminology Board of Directors.
