Prison and Jail Innovation Lab (PJIL)

The Prison and Jail Innovation Lab (PJIL) is a national policy resource center at the University of Texas at Austin focused on the safe and humane treatment of people in custody, on improving correctional oversight, and on deaths in custody. PJIL is led by Michele Deitch (Director) and Alycia Welch (Associate Director), who serve as Chair and Vice-Chair of the Network, respectively. Kate Eves, OBE, consults with PJIL and serves as Special Advisor to the Network, and Allison Paranka is PJIL’s Senior Administrative Coordinator.

PJIL also operates the National Resource Center for Correctional Oversight (NRCCO), which provides resources and technical assistance to policymakers, oversight practitioners, advocates, and others who are working to establish or strengthen correctional oversight in the U.S.
