Technology in Corrections Conference (TIC)

International Corrections and Prisons Association (ICPA) in cooperation with the European Organisation of Prison and Correctional Services (EuroPris), are organising the fifth Technology in Corrections Conference (TIC): 'Digital Rehabilitation’, which will be hosted by the General Directorate of Prisons and Detention Houses in Türkiye, April 21st -24th 2024.

The purpose of this conference is to:

  • Build an environment to exchange ideas and to facilitate creating an ecosystem where solutions can be discussed and developed.
  • Challenge the sector to develop innovative and ethical digital solutions for use in corrections to support and modernise the services of prisons and probation today.
  • Provide networking opportunities for technology experts in the corrections arena.
  • Promote the (ethical and safe) use and implementation of advanced digital technology solutions in corrections.
Technology has changed almost all aspects of our modern lives and there is a real need to anticipate this new reality into how prison and probation services do their work and help individuals return successfully into a digital society. This context brings the terms digital and rehabilitation closer together, impels us to confront them with each other and at some point, to marry them.

A particular challenge facing corrections is the emphasis on professionalization and efficiency with more individualized and person-centric approaches towards users of corrections, and a strong focus on preparing re-entry into a society that has become increasingly digital. While technology can support achieving outcomes, it needs to be realised in a context where operational security and public safety are to be guaranteed and the right balance and responses to emerging realities in society such as radicalisation, organised crime, and cybercrime have to be found. Achieving all of this within the restraints of a difficult budgetary context constitutes a complex challenge.

Who should attend?

This conference is for senior corrections officials, policy makers, academics, researchers, technology experts, criminal justice professionals, and those working in corrections and probation services who are interested in leveraging technology to modernize and advance their work. It is also an excellent opportunity for those interested in the intersection of digital technology and rehabilitation to exchange ideas and learn about the latest developments in the field.
