Article 6: Young Men’s Experiences of Psychological Formulation as Part of a Care Planning Initiative in the Irish Prison Service (ACJ14-A006)

Abstract
Young men in custody are a vulnerable group due to their stage of brain development. The Psychology Service in the Irish Prison Service (IPS) have developed a strengths-based, psychologically informed programme for young men. Engagement in a clinical interview and psychological formulation leads to the development of a bespoke care plan. This care plan or ‘sentence plan’ outlines key rehabilitation services the young person can engage with while in custody and on release. This study aims to give voice to young men’s experiences of psychological formulation as part of sentence planning, potentially contributing to the literature on ‘what else works’.
