Behind the Walls: new podcast on prisons and parole

Australia’s largest corrections jurisdiction has released a ground-breaking new podcast, which takes listeners on a journey into what it’s like to work inside prisons and parole offices in New South Wales.

Behind the Walls is a six-part series featuring first-hand accounts from 30 Corrective Services NSW (CSNSW) staff about what really happens behind bars, from riots to contraband detection and incredible stories of rehabilitation.

CSNSW Media and Communications Director Michael Duffy spent six months recording the series at 11 correctional centres and four Community Corrections offices as a way of recognising the important work of staff in keeping the community safe.

“The most important ingredient of a podcast is people with stories you want to hear,” Michael says.

“Thinking of all the frontline staff I’d met in my seven years here, I realised there was no shortage of that. Why not put them in front of a microphone and ask them to tell the public about their job?”

Behind the Walls is available ad-free on iTunesSpotify and wherever you listen to podcasts.
