JP-COOPS-FAIRNESS Projects Final Conference

The final online conference took two days. On Day 1, both the overall FAIRNESS and JPCOOPS projects and their main deliverable - the FAIRNESS EU Toolkit and JP-COOPS Super Toolkit, were discussed.

ICPA participated in the FAIRNESS – Implementation of the Stockholm Roadmap in Cases of Terrorism and Radicalization Project. The project aimed to:

  • Increase the capacity of national practitioners to harmonise issues related to the rights of persons suspected or accused of terror-related crimes;
  • Increase the awareness of policymakers and civil society organisations, including the media and NGOs, on the necessary compatibility of the ‘Stockholm’s Programme’ with CT policies and practices;
  • Reduce risks of fair trial rights breaches when serious crimes with extensive use of preventive measures in pre-trial are involved.

The International partners of the consortiums for the EU JUST projects: “Implementation of the Stockholm Roadmap in Cases of Terrorism and Radicalization” (FARINESS) and the “Judicial and Police Cooperation Preventing Radicalisation Towards Terrorism” (JP-COOPS) organised an online project conference “Crime – Terror Nexus: legal perspectives from the EU Member States”.

The final online conference took two days. On Day 1, both the overall FAIRNESS and JPCOOPS projects and their main deliverable - the FAIRNESS EU Toolkit and JP-COOPS Super Toolkit, were discussed.

These Toolkits are helping to develop the capacities of national professionals to address issues relating to the rights of persons suspected or accused of crimes associated with terrorism and strengthen the information exchange and cooperation practices between competent national authorities.

Moreover, the Toolkits provide a centralised security solution dashboard for strategic planning, allowing for the presentation and dissemination of new content and greater outreach and contact with potential stakeholders. Day 2 (by invitation only) will include the practical exercise for practitioners to simulate and validate the developed tools in the frameworks of JP-COOPS and FAIRNESS.
